Solabia Nutrition’s subsidiary Bioactor is integrated into the scientific ecosystem of the Maastricht Health Campus, with close links to the Maastricht University Medical Center (MUMC) and NUTRIM, the leading research school for nutrition and health in the Netherlands. The in-house clinical team is supervised by external principal investigators to ensure unbiased evaluation of results. Clinical research via GCP trials is a key part of our value creation strategy, and every Bioactor product has been evaluated in one or more clinical studies.

- Vegetal extraction (on aqueous solvent, by cold pressing under non-denaturing conditions, etc.)
- Fine chemistry (synthesis without organic solvents from materials of plant and mineral origin)
- Biotechnologies (hydrolysis and enzymatic synthesis)

Vegetal extraction
Vegetal extraction is a process used to extract active compounds and nutrients from plants for various sectors including the nutraceutical or nutricosmetic industry.
Solabia is one of the experts in vegetal extraction and natural ingredient development, which enables it to meet the various needs of its industrial clients by offering them effective and specific solutions for the food, health and beauty sectors.
Microalgae
At the very beginning of the food chain, containing most of the basic nutrients necessary for life, microalgae are recognized as one of the most promising long-term raw materials for food, health, chemical and other related products. While evidence of the benefits of algae-derived food products is well documented for improved heart, eye and brain health, as well as immune system and skin benefits, algae are increasingly being consumed for their functional benefits beyond traditional health and food applications. Today, microalgae are an essential component for certain products such as cosmetics and food supplements. They also have an interesting potential to meet the growing needs of populations for sustainable food.
Macroalgae
Macroalgae are marine organisms that can be used for nutritional and cosmetics purposes. Nutritionally, macroalgae are rich in nutrients such as proteins, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Macroalgae have great potential in the nutraceutical industry due to their high content of essential nutrients and bioactive compounds.

Polysaccharides
Polysaccharides are sugar molecules that have high potential in the nutraceutical industry as dietary supplements to improve digestive health and regulate blood sugar. Polysaccharides such as alpha-glucooligosaccharide (alpha-GOS), have prebiotic properties that can improve the intestinal flora and strengthen the immune system and help prevent infections. Mineral salts
Minerals play a vital role in biological processes by serving as cofactors in many biochemical reactions. Minerals can be classified into two categories: macroelements and trace elements. Pyrrolidone carboxylic acid (PCA) is a natural and physiological derivative that is involved in many biological mechanisms. Solabia’s researchers have shown that PCA is an agent of epidermal differentiation, allowing the skin to maintain its mechanical resistance and water homeostasis.
